Just a Normal Saturday

It started off like any normal Saturday, get up at 11am. Hit the garden - not normal - and I now have more plants than weeds in the garden. That was the afternoon. Grabbed the Evening Standard - quick read as they had nothing in it. Turned on the news ten minutes late - what the ???? a 7.1 earthquake in Christchurch!!!!! Reread the paper.......... earthquake in Taupo yesterday.....Christchurch??... guess the news doesn't travel that far south, or perhaps they were just like me, didn't know a thing.
As for the earthquake, I didn't feel a thing and am blown away by the fact that apart from one death due to a heart attack, everyone came out okay. As for the damage - don't live in a brick house. It goes to show that buildings now constructed in New Zealand, are build to withstand earthquakes otherwise the CBD would be flat.
As usual Kiwis just put their heads down and start the clean up, helping their neighbours and neighbourhoods. That is something you don't see everywhere. So my heart goes out to all families affected by the quake and hope that this quake will help prepare other NZ cities for their big one.
